Venezuela’s Government express its profound sorrow for the tragic stampede at Haiti’s historic Citadelle Laferrière, an incident that claimed at least 30 lives and injured numerous youths, reaffirming unconditional support for the Caribbean nation.
The Venezuelan government, through acting President Delcy Rodríguez, will convey its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and wish a swift recovery to those injured.
The official communiqué from Venezuela, to be released on Sunday, April 14, emphasizes Caracas’s solidarity with Haiti in the wake of this devastating event. The message highlights the historical bonds of brotherhood that have united both nations since the time of their liberation heroes, Alexandre Pétion and Simón Bolívar.
“His deepest sorrow for the tragic loss of life in the Republic of Haiti as a result of the stampede recorded at the historic Citadel Laferrière, which has left dozens of dead and numerous wounded”, the communiqué stated.
“We join in the mourning that befalls all of Haiti in the face of this lamentable tragedy, which especially captivates the youth present at the site”, added the official statement, through which the Venezuelan Government extended its condolences to the relatives of the deceased and wished a prompt recovery to the injured.
Text reads: “The Acting President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, on behalf of the Venezuelan Government and people, expresses her deepest sorrow for the tragic loss of life in the Republic of Haiti, as a result of the stampede recorded in the historic Citadel Laferrière, which has left dozens of fatalities and numerous wounded.”
In the document, the commitment of unconditional support towards Haiti is highlighted, based on the historical ties of brotherhood that unite the two nations since the time of the leaders Alexander Petion and Simón Bolívar.
This gesture of support emerges at a moment of profound shock for the Caribbean nation, reeling from the lamentable incident at the national monument, located approximately 25 kilometers from Cap-Haïtien in northern Haiti. The tragedy occurred within the Citadelle Henri, also known as Citadelle Laferrière, a site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage property, underscoring the international significance of the event and the need for a comprehensive investigation into its causes.
The Citadelle Laferrière tragedy, according to preliminary reports, originated from a critical lack of oxygen within the monument’s galleries. This perilous situation was severely exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and persistent rainfall. These combined factors tragically triggered a massive human avalanche and subsequent stampede, which ultimately resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and left numerous others with injuries.
The profound loss of life, particularly among young attendees, has sent shockwaves through the Caribbean community and beyond, prompting a global outpouring of sympathy and calls for accountability.
